The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Friday that three players have joined the organization on two-way contracts: 2025 second-round pick Brooks Barnhizer, 2026 second-round pick Otega Oweh and 2026 undrafted free agent Josh Dix. The moves came on the same day the club confirmed its 2026 first-round selections, Aday Mara (No. 12 overall) and Bennett Stirtz (No. 16 overall), to rookie-scale contracts.
The two-way signings follow the Thursday waiver of guard Payton Sandfort, who had been signed to a two-year two-way deal in March. By clearing the roster spot, the Thunder were able to formalize the trio of two-way contracts that will allow the players to split time between the NBA club and its G League affiliate.
The offseason also saw the Thunder exercise team options on Kenrich Williams, Lu Dort and Isaiah Hartenstein, keeping the core of the roster intact. In parallel, Oklahoma City moved bench contributors Aaron Wiggins and Isaiah Joe to the Eastern Conference, sending Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks and Joe to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for future second-round picks. Those trades, combined with the option decisions, give the Thunder added flexibility under the new collective bargaining agreement.
Strategically, the roster moves reflect Sam Presti’s focus on maintaining a deep, 15-man roster while preserving cap flexibility. By converting the former two-way slot occupied by Sandfort into three fresh two-way contracts, the Thunder keep developmental talent close without adding immediate salary pressure. The acquisition of future second-round picks for Wiggins and Joe provides additional assets that can be leveraged in future drafts or trades, a prudent approach given the league’s luxury-tax landscape.
Looking ahead, the newly signed rookies and two-way players will join the Thunder’s summer-league roster, giving coaches an early look at how the talent fits within Oklahoma City’s system. The blend of first-round prospects with seasoned two-way contracts underscores the Thunder’s commitment to a balanced roster that can compete for a championship window while staying within the financial constraints of the new CBA.
